Marc received undergraduate degrees from McGill University and from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar, and a Ph.D. from University College London (UCL). After postdoctoral work at UCL and at Columbia University, he established his laboratory at the University of California, San Francisco, where he was named an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He later moved to Stanford, where he was the Susan B. Ford Professor in the School of Humanities and Sciences, and then to Genentech Inc., where he served as Chief Scientific Officer and Executive Vice President of Research, as well as running his laboratory. He joined The Rockefeller University in 2011 as President and Carson Family Professor, and as Head of the Laboratory of Brain Development and Repair.

Stuart joined Warwick in 2007 as Professor of International Security and has since served the University's Pro Vice- Chancellor, and subsequently as Provost.
Professor Stuart Croft is Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Warwick, which employs some 6,000 people, has some 25,000 students, and a turnover approaching £600m per year.
Stuart joined Warwick in 2007 as Professor of International Security and has since served the University's Pro Vice- Chancellor, and subsequently as Provost.
Outside Warwick, Stuart chairs the Board of the Equality Challenge Unit, the sector agency that leads on equalities and diversity, as well as sitting on various Boards including the Russell Group, and The Guild of European Research Intensive Universities (a body of 18 institutions across the continent that Warwick led in establishing). He is also chair of the Midlands Innovation board (the group of the region's leading eight research intensive universities), and is a member of the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership Board, where he is the co-chair of the Skills sub-committee.

Thomas Zacharia, director of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), guides 5,400 staff in solving scientific and technical challenges for the U.S. Department of Energy and other sponsors, managing an annual budget of $2 billion.
Not satisfied with biology’s vast catalyst repertoire, we create new enzyme catalysts and expand the chemistry of life. We use the most powerful biological design process, evolution, to optimize existing enzymes and invent new ones, thereby circumventing our profound ignorance of how sequence encodes function. With a little insight from chemistry, we can generate enzymes for transformations that are unknown in biology. These new-to-nature enzymes increase the scope of molecules and materials we can build using synthetic biology and move us closer to a sustainable world where human-invented chemistry will be genetically encoded.
Dr. Arnold is Linus Pauling professor of chemical engineering, bioengineering and biochemistry at the California Institute of Technology and director of Donna and Benjamin M. Rosen Bioengineering Center. Dr. Arnold’s lab pioneered directed evolution to create new enzymes that catalyze non-biological reactions with high efficiencies and selectivities. Dr. Arnold was awarded the 2018 Nobel Prize for Chemistry for her work on directed evolution of enzymes.

He is known for leading the first draftsequence of the human genome and assembled the firstteam to transfect a cell with a synthetic chromosome.
Proteins mediate the critical processes of life and beautifully solve the challenges faced during the evolution of modern organisms. Our goal is to design a new generation of proteins that address current day problems not faced during evolution. In contrast to traditional protein engineering efforts, which have focused on modifying naturally occurring proteins, we design new proteins from scratch based on Anfinsen’s principle that proteins fold to their global free energy minimum. We compute amino acid sequences predicted to fold into proteins with new structures and functions, produce synthetic genes encoding these sequences, and characterize them experimentally. I will describe the de novo design of fluorescent proteins, membrane penetrating macrocycles, transmembrane protein channels, allosteric proteins that carry out logic operations, and self-assembling nanomaterials and polyhedra. I will also discuss the application of these methods to COVID-19 challenges.
Dr. Baker is head of the Institute for Protein Design and Professor of Biochemistry at University of Washington. Dr. Baker was awared Biochemical Society Centenary Award in 2012 and Sackler Prize in Biophysics in 2009. Dr. Baker’s research is focused on the prediction and design of protein structures, protein folding mechanisms, protein-protein interactions, protein-nucleotide interactions, and protein-ligand interactions.
